Viracon Glass Shines: Inspiring Architectural Projects Nationwide
2024 Project Insight
Viracon started the new year with a bang, diving into several groundbreaking high-performance glass projects. Our project backlog is filled with a diverse range of project types, but it's clear that Education, Healthcare/Medical, and Airport/Transportation projects are leading the pack. Geographically speaking, this month witnessed multiple project awards in Florida, Texas, New York, and Ohio.
When it comes to these projects, energy efficiency and occupant comfort are of utmost importance. But we didn't stop there. Our team also incorporated unique features like oversized glass, the use of thick glass or unbalanced makeup to reduce distortion, bird-friendly glass, and the implementation of heat soaking to eliminate the risk of nickel sulfide inclusion. These features set our projects apart and are all available through Viracon, your true single-source partner for high-performance glazing.
Take a closer look at the one remarkable project we're proud of. Martineau and Co. is here to engage in discussions about your specific project needs and to ignite inspiration for your next venture.

Heat soaking on all tempered glass | Eliminate nickel sulfide inclusions and spontaneous breakage |
Single Source
Low E Coating
The high performance Low E coating of choice was VNE1-63. It is a high light transmitting coating that's non reflective and offers a superior SHGC.
Bird Friendly
Viracon offers a variety of solutions for bird friendly glass make-ups. We work directly with Architects and utilize guidelines created by the American Bird Conservancy. See our Bird Friendly Tech Talk from June of 2023 for more details.
Thicker Exterior Lite
A thicker exterior lite improves acoustical performance and enhances appearance by providing a flatter appearance and less pillowing.
Heat Soaking
Finally, heat soaking was utilized on all tempered glass. Fully tempered glass may break without warning due to the expansion of nickel sulfide inclusions present within float glass. To avoid the risk of spontaneous breakage in fully tempered glass, a common practice, and Viracon’s recommendation, is to use fully tempered glass only when it is required by code or to meet design loads. When fully tempered glass is required, heat soak testing is recommended to minimize the risk of spontaneous breakage.
